Honduras sits in the tropics, so humidity slaps you like a wet towel the moment you step off the plane. The country keeps classic Caribbean time, bone-dry December through April, then the skies unload from May to November. Thermometers idle in the high 20s to low 30s every month; the real swing is measured in rainfall, not degrees. What catches travelers off-guard are the microclimates. The Bay Islands dodge much of the wet season, while Tegucigalpa in the mountains can send you hunting for a jacket after sunset. The Caribbean coast scoops up more rain than the Pacific slope, and altitude rewrites everything, San Pedro Sula simmers while the capital, perched at 1,000 meters, keeps its cool. Come the wet season, afternoon storms pull in like clockwork and roll out by cocktail hour. Hurricanes can spin along the Caribbean coast June through November, with September and October drawing the worst cards.

Best Time to Visit

Recommended timing for different travel styles.

Beach & Relaxation
February through April give Roatán and the Bay Islands their driest window, bath-warm water and almost no afternoon storms.
Cultural Exploration
December through March let you wander Tegucigalpa and scramble over Maya ruins without the air feeling like soup.
Adventure & Hiking
Late November through early May stack the odds for clear trails and firm footing at Pico Bonito or Copán.
Budget Travel
September and October slash prices and tourists, though you’ll need to dance around daily showers.
